MAP Test

The MAP® test is a computer based, adaptive assessment that measures academic progress in reading and math. This online assessment is unique in that adjusts to your child’s levels of knowledge as he/she progresses through the test. As a result, each student has an opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.

The first assessment of the year establishes a baseline score, which is reported as the RIT score. The RIT score determines your child’s instructional level and is used to measure academic growth throughout the school year. We will use the data from the assessment to differentiate instruction and support student success. Our goal is to see growth throughout the school year and from year to year. We will notify you of the week of testing. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth.

The chart below indicates the minimum target (“Basic”) end-of-the-year RIT scores for each grade level. Students performing at “Basic” are performing below grade level; “Proficient” indicates a student on grade level. While student RIT scores are NOT the sole criteria in determining promotion/retention, they are one of the multiple measures used in determining final student promotion decisions. Additionally, special provisions may be made for students who are English Language Learners and students with identified disabilities.
