Reading/ELA

We are currently launching our Guided Reading groups and establishing expectations for the classroom during small group instruction. Students will be learning more about independent, partner, and teacher-led groups in order for our  valuable learning time more effective. We will begin a new Balanced Literacy curriculum this year.

Wilson is our 1st grade phonics program. Students will also participate in daily letter sounds drills.

 

Wilson Fundations makes learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for life-long literacy. Students in grades K-3 receive a systematic program in critical foundational skills, emphasizing:

  • Phonemic awareness

  • Phonics/ word study

  • High frequency word study

  • Reading fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Comprehension strategies 

  • Handwriting

  • Spelling

Math

This year, our county has adopted a new Math curriculum called EUREKA. This curriculum is one that carefully sequences the mathematical progressions into expertly crafted modules.

Over the next few weeks, students will be developing their number sense as well as learning about number bonds.
